The Story of Sam Taylor Studio
Desde que era niña siempre me he sentido atraído por cualquier tipo de actividad creativa. No hay nada mejor para mí que un montón de materiales de arte y trabajar con mis manos.
Cuando tenía 16 años fui a tomar sopa con un amigo (que ahora es mi marido), para aliviar mis nuevos frenillos. Descubrimos una linda tienda de cuentas al otro lado de la calle del restaurante, y casualmente tenían un cartel de contratación colgado en la ventana. No podría pensar en un trabajo más perfecto para mí. Finalmente me convertí en gerente de la tienda y trabajé allí de forma intermitente durante más de 10 años. Tenía razón al decir que era el trabajo perfecto: aprendí mucho de mi encantadora jefa y de mis talentosos compañeros de trabajo y desarrollé una pasión por todo lo pequeño y brillante. ¡Todavía extraño trabajar allí hasta el día de hoy!
Fui a la universidad y estudié arte de estudio con especialización en escultura. Después de graduarme, comencé a trabajar en joyería fina y abrí esta tienda de Etsy para trabajar en mi tiempo libre. En 2018, mi esposo y yo nos mudamos a Colorado por motivos de trabajo. Comencé a trabajar de forma remota en diseño de joyería fina y a escribir para un blog de joyería. Me encantaba poder usar mi creatividad en un entorno profesional, pero faltaba una cosa importante: extrañaba desesperadamente trabajar con las manos.
Cuando me despidieron de mi trabajo a finales de 2022, lo tomé como una señal de volver a lo básico con lo que me da alegría. Para mí, eso es sentarme en mi mesa de trabajo, leer un audiolibro y entrar en una hiperconcentración profunda de cuentas e hilos. Cuando salgo horas más tarde (generalmente con mucha hambre y necesitando desesperadamente un descanso para ir al baño), todavía me resulta difícil alejarme de estos pequeños fragmentos que lentamente se unen para convertirse en algo hermoso.
¡Soy completamente adicto y no lo haría de otra manera!
Since I was a child I've always been drawn to any kind of creative pursuit. There is nothing better to me than a pretty mess of art supplies and working with my hands.
When I was 16 years old I went to get soup with a friend (who is now my husband), to soothe my new braces. We discovered a cute bead shop across the street from the restaurant, and they happened to have a now hiring sign hung in the window. I couldn't think of a more perfect job for me. I eventually became the store manager and worked there on and off for over 10 years. I was right about it being the perfect job– I learned so much from my lovely boss and talented coworkers and I developed a passion for all things tiny and sparkly. I still miss working there to this day!
I went to college and studied studio art with a concentration in sculpture. After graduating I started working in fine jewelry and opened this Etsy shop to work on in my free time. In 2018 my husband and I moved to Colorado for his job. I began working remotely in fine jewelry design and writing for a jewelry blog. I loved being able to use my creativity in a professional setting but one major thing was missing– I desperately missed working with my hands.
When I was laid off from my job at the end of 2022, I took it as a sign to get back to basics with what brings me joy. For me, that is sitting down at my work table, throwing on an audiobook, and entering a deep hyperfocus of beads and thread. When I emerge hours later (usually very hungry and desperately needing a bathroom break) I still find it hard to pull myself away from these tiny little fragments slowly coming together to become something beautiful.
I am fully addicted and I wouldn't have it any other way!
