Cycle of Samsara
The romance of the humbled beginnings of The Samsara Collection started in early 2007. My husband and I were growing tired of reconstructing clothing. We wanted to create something that would embrace our multicultural backgrounds, be modern / simple with a strong focus on fabrics and prints.
A decision was made to combine our past skills and create something unique and cutting edge.
While in college we started a import business focusing on art and textiles from Africa. With our strong background on travel we began to scout around for the people we did business with in the past and after a few months of tracking down everyone we had all the contacts we needed to begin our new venture. Now more than willing we decided to step out of our comfort zone!
2008 One year later we showed a collection of what we called The Modern African, it was a huge success. The next year we did a collection of Driver Hats with eco friendly Denim and African Prints and followed that up with a small collection of leather and Mudcloth Bags. Since then we have extended our fabrics selection to as far as Japan, S.America, Holland, and local artists in the Caribbean.
We are humbled by manufacturing everything inhouse and pride ourselves on being Made In America. We are one of very few that actually make everything we sell by choice.
"I find that when the fabric is in my hand and I have to figure out how to manipulate it, there is another part of the brain that figures out how to manipulate the scraps."
