Sand Dollar Girl
I started Sand Dollar Girl during the pandemic selling face masks, like so many. The pandemic changed our lives, and for me, for the better. What a great reminder to slow down.
After moving from Santa Barbara/Ventura up to beautiful Humboldt County on the Northern California coast, I spent most every day walking our many beaches. A large number of Dendastar Excentricus sand dollar tests wash ashore here, especially after storms and earthquakes.
It was a natural transition to move away from masks and into beach finds. I absolutely love sharing the beach with those who love it as much as I do. Of course, I couldn't help but take photos of our beautiful skies, the birds, and the beach as well.
I took my first photography class in 1975. As a challenge to myself, I started with an old Kodak B/W camera and developed the film in the high school dark room. I was hooked!
Many years later, I now shoot with a Sony a7rIV and develop in Lightroom. I still challenge myself to take the best shot while out in the field, instead of worrying about a lot of post-production. Most of my edits are very minor.
So here we are in 2023 and I thought it was time to share all of my beach treasures, including my photography.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by and please reach out to me with any special requests. It would be my pleasure to assist.
See you on the beach,
Loretta
