Welcome to My Quirks of Art!
Hello! I'm Sarah May.
I started drawing in Kindergarten after I fraudulently told my classmates I drew a cat (it was my mother's original work). I practiced drawing that cat until I could do it faithfully in front of the other 5-year-olds. My entire art practice is based on a Show-and-Tell lie. I now make all my own art and my mother's only contribution is in the form of Facebook likes (thanks Mom).
In 4th grade I discovered that class clowns could make people laugh ON PURPOSE. I thought this was the most magical skill and I wanted in. But I was so shy, I never said a word about it until college. At some point in my early 20s, some guy told me I was funnier than Daniel Tosh. I kissed him. But I did not touch a microphone until I was 33.
In my mid-30s I quit my day job to make people laugh and make people art and now I finally have an Etsy shop! My day job was at a non-profit, and I like to think of my Etsy shop as a "pre-profit" (please buy something so I can change that label).
I paint and draw (watercolor, ink, acrylics mostly) and I perform stand-up comedy all over the country (but mostly in New England). I needed a platform to help sell some merch but also wanted to double-dip into selling art prints of some of my favorite creations. So here we are!
The items in my shop are for buyers who want more than aesthetically lovely background noise in their homes and workspaces. My art prints are more vulnerable than most. My comedy merch is more than just name-brand awareness - I design fun wearables, mugs, and journals that I personally find amusing and cool. I hope you do too!
Lastly: I use Printify for print-on-demand services, meaning your purchases will print and ship from professional production sites across the US. Want a slightly better deal and real-time delivery? Come see me at a show and I ~may~ have merch on hand! (check me out: https://www.instagram.com/sarahmaylaugh/)
Keep on lurching!
