A friend of a friend was doing the markets and offered me to stand with her at the next market she attended (a small market), bringing along some of my designs. Well, in two weeks I had sewn enough to hold a stall of my own, but still stood beside my new friend. The customers came and went, buying from my friend, but only picking my things up and telling me how talented I was. Very downtrodden, I knew right there and then, the markets weren’t for me. I went home and almost cried. What was I going to do with all these beautiful items I had painstakingly put together? My friend wanted me to try again and I agreed, it was the same result, I'd sold nothing.
My husband then stepped in and said he would come to the markets with me if I wanted my own stall and he had the day off... it just so happened that there was one in the park (a different venue) that very Sunday and it was his day off... I was so nervous, I didn't want my husband to see me fail again but I was determined to have another go. It took about an hour and I sold my first items... a pair of luggage tags... I was so overwhelmed I wanted to give the lady the whole stall as a thank you gift... but good sense prevailed and I put her little tags in a little pink polka dot bag I had purchased to put all my sales in, thanked her for her support and forgot to give her one of my homemade business cards to remember me by...
Well a lot has happened since then and I now have a Facebook Page; www.facebook.com/saselvendesigns. I did have my own website but then I discovered the wonders of ETSY.
My next venture is patterns and I am in the midst of writing tutorials, designing for PDF downloads and looking at printing costs for my patterns.
Taking this Journey has taught me to keep trying, keep believing in what you are doing. I am not a millionaire, and never expect to be from doing this, however, I enjoy it and I make enough money to keep going.
I do hope you like what you see and even if you don't purchase please pass my name onto your friends and family. Thanking for you taking the time to read this and take care of you and yours... Sas.
