I am passionate about art - especially watercolor painting - and several years ago, I became an avid fan of art journaling as a way to capture my thoughts and dreams. It was art journaling that led to my love of an unexpected craft: hand-cut, hand-sewn leather journals.

I began making journals after visiting an art show and seeing the beautiful leather journals. I dove into learning leather sewing and binding, with the goal to master this beautiful craft and make them available to inspire creativity in others.

Each journal is hand cut. I then prepare 50 hand-folded sheets of quality paper for the journal and punch them with an awl. I then hand punch the leather and select the waxed linen thread. I sew the journals together and then select a stone pendant to compliment the leather. Once I receive an order, I wrap each journal in black butcher paper and include a piece of hand marbled paper that I have made.

I absolutely love hearing the stories of the people who are receiving the journals…for “my fiancé who is an artist,” “my girlfriend who needs to know she is loved,” a man going on a mission trip, a woman starting a business in France, a granddaughter “who likes to write poetry,” a woman beginning a new journey in her life…so many unique people and so many different uses for my journals. I feel very privileged to be able to sell you an item that will be treasured.

The beautiful wood pens are made by David Martindale, an Oregon-born local artist.
