Sciurus Game Carriers - Immerse Yourself in the Outdoors
Sciurus Game Carriers were created when my dad and I were hunting squirrels in the great outdoors. We were sick and tired of whittling a stick into a new game carrier every time we went into the woods. Not only were we wasting precious time we could be pursuing squirrels, but it was also a major inconvenience to carry squirrels in one hand and lug a firearm with the other. We then sought to create an innovative multi-use lightweight game carrier that freed our hands for shooting and allowed us to focus on the game we were hunting.
This revelation inspired us to create the family business, Sciurus Game Carriers. My dad made our prototype carrier using high-quality, durable paracord and a safety pin. We have significantly improved the design by adding a handle for easy carry and enhancing the safety pin. We want our carrier to promote wildlife conservation and inspire people to get outdoors and hunt. We have since lent my carriers to multiple friends and have received nothing but glowing reviews. This game carrier has changed how we hunt for small game.
My dad and I are just beginning our business and want to create more hunting accessories in the future. My dad has been hunting his entire life. From birth, he has been an outdoorsman. He has hunted and trapped every animal he legally could. Before I was born, he and my mom had to live off the limit of squirrels my dad hunted every morning for two years. So there is no question that he knows a thing or two about hunting small game. He guided duck and turkey hunters for 10 years with several outfitters. His fixation with the animals of the outdoors led him to become a wildlife biologist. He was a wildlife biologist in Illinois for 25 years. Over those years, he has done hundreds of animal studies and has forgotten more about wildlife than I’ll ever know.
I will never know as much about the outdoors as my dad, but I have learned a thing or two from him about squirrel hunting. I was never an avid deer or turkey hunter, but I fell in love with squirrel hunting at a young age. I began packing squirrels for my dad when I was four years old. Since then, I have hunted squirrels for seventeen straight years. Especially in the last three years, I have been going out every morning before school, whether alone or with my friends, to try to reach my daily limit. I have also become quite the chef when it comes to cooking squirrels. I have cooked squirrels in every way imaginable. I’ve fried, grilled, smoked, griddled, braised, air-fried, crockpot, and pressure-cooked squirrel. My favorite recipe I have ever made with squirrels is squirrel fried rice. Even though I have much less hunting experience and knowledge than my dad. I do make up for it with my critter cooking skills.
I am currently in college and will be transferring to Bemidji State University. While visiting the campus and looking around the woods, we saw a red squirrel. This gave my dad the idea to travel America and hunt every kind of squirrel that we legally can. We have already hunted and bagged thousands of grey and fox squirrels. We plan to hunt red squirrels when he visits me at school in Minnesota. Then we plan on going on a trip to South Carolina to hunt southern fox squirrels.
