Surcle was founded in 2015 with the intent of making beautifully handcrafted pieces featuring the natural beauty of wood with the creativity and skill of the maker. Founded by Julie Jackson and later joined by Jonathan Meador, this wife and husband duo create lighting, home decor, and furniture with an emphasis on the lathe with wood from downed urban trees. This produces pieces that are rounded and smooth with rich character and history.

Julie comes from a family of woodworkers, learned the trade from her brother and grew up crafting with her grandparents, a carpenter and a painter. She is the lover of keepsakes, makes everything to be admired, made to last with incredible attention to detail. She has a background in art and environmental science, which gives her an extra eye when it comes to sustainabilty. She goes out of her way to make sure the business is run using materials and guidelines that promote care and consideration for the environment. This consideration for the materials used in production leads to more unique and beautiful products. Instead of being limited to the typical wood species used within the furniture industry, using downed trees provides opportunities to work with a variety of wood species, grown wildly in their urban environment, creating spectacular grain patterns and coloring in the wood.
