Wonder Land
Jamie Elizabeth Hudrlik is a visual artist living in the Midwest. She grew up in Iowa and has been drawing and painting ever since she can remember. She graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a BFA in painting with additional studies in children’s book illustration at The School of Visual Arts in New York City.
I just moved into an amazing art studio space where I have painting regularly again! Come visit! I also have two online vintage shops on Etsy.com -- Dirty Birdies Vintage and ContempoLA http://www.etsy.com/shop/dirtybirdiesvintage / http://www.etsy.com/shop/ContempoLA
My large scale paintings are on unstretched canvas and always combine female figures, botanical elements and symbolic animals to create surreal and fantastical worlds. Personal and poetic explorations about growing up in the Midwest and my brilliantly vivid wild flower garden are significant sources of inspiration. My paintings evoke memories, imagination, play and dreamscapes. Experimenting with various media such as acrylic paint, pencil, marker, oil crayon, stamps and stencils help enhance my fantastical landscapes in each painting. I love building layers of color, paint drips and texture. Currently, I'm working on a new series of paintings called: Double Bloom.
While attending school, she was awarded the Weisman Grant to help complete a series of twenty-six large scale mixed media paintings entitled The Alphabet Series. Her paintings have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows throughout the Midwest. The Alphabet Series was exhibited as solo show in at The Iowa State Memorial Union in Ames, Iowa in 2006. Her newest body of work Wonder Land was exhibited and featured at The Chait Galleries in Iowa City, Iowa in 2009 and as a solo show at The Iowa State Memorial Union in Ames, Iowa in 2010. In addition to exhibitions, Hudrlik has been successfully selling her paintings to private collectors across the US and abroad.
