My Illustrated Timeline of Israel's History
As a child I was curious about Israel's history. My father was a pastor who loved charts and timelines, and one particular chart on his study wall showed the Kings and Prophets of the Southern Kingdom of Judah and the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
I recall coming into his study one day and sitting on his lap. I asked, "Daddy, why does this chart show two kingdoms?" Our conversation that day triggered a desire in me to know what happened in history before his chart, and what happened afterward. Finally as an adult I studied Israel's history and saw the big picture for myself.
I took many of my ideas for this timeline from observing my mother who was an artist and Sunday School teacher. Each week as she prepared her lessons she would draw figures and images as teaching aids for her class. So I grew up with a love of the Bible as well as a love for art and drawing.
The combination of history and art helped me out. As I read the original source document, the Old Testament or Tenach with some knowledge of Hebrew, and studied from Jewish and Christian Bible teachers, I recorded what I learned in this fun and colorful timeline. I enjoyed doing it and I learned so much, that I decided to share it with others.
