Once upon a time there were two crazy girls who loved vintage clothes...
Inspired by my older sister Debe, I started buying and wearing vintage in my teens. My best friend Terry and I always joked we should open a vintage store - we thrifted together constantly and both had boxes and boxes of vintage, so much that we had to switch out wardrobes with every season. One fateful day in 1988, while musing about opening a store again, we felt magic in the air and we knew it was time to actually do it. The legendary Las Locas was born - a Baltimore vintage store named after the Jaime Hernandez Love and Rockets characters Maggie and Hopey, AKA Las Locas. The store was a happy, lively gathering spot and was referred to as “The Vortex of Love” by locals and friends. We only lasted a year or so, practically giving our stock away and donating a large percent of our profits to local charities. Although it was short-lived and financially unsound, Las Locas filled the city with love, laughter, goodwill, and amazing fashion - and it was instrumental in establishing Normal's Bookstore, a very successful Baltimore institution that's still going strong. Las Locas is still talked about in Baltimore, as are Maggie and Hopey! I’m very proud of taking that leap off the cliff of security - it helped two girls find their true selves while helping others.
I never stopped collecting vintage, often passing it on to friends or to anywhere it was needed, but I missed being a vintage seller. ETSY gave me the opportunity to jump back into the Vintage World full force when I started Secret Agent Girl in 2009.
My dear friend and fashion partner Terry/Maggie passed away in 2011, so those vintage memories are even more tender to me now. I’m so happy to be back in the world of vintage vending, resurrecting my alter-ego Hopey and creating new memories! Your support of Secret Agent Girl enables me to do the thing I love and keeps Maggie's laughter present throughout my day. Thank you!
Always remember - a good clash is better than a bad match!
