Ball Joint Dolls Took Over My Life

NOTE: I do ship anywhere our country ships to. Contact me about how much your shipping would be. I'll need a zip-code or mailing code to find out, and get back to you as soon as possible. ^_^

Hello!
I go by my nickname, Rajendora, in the Ball Joint Doll hobby...fandom...obsession?

For years, I ran a custom design, patterning, tailoring and sewing business for humans. I've made everything from specialized handi-wear to fantasy wedding clothes. I've recently picked up that side of the business again! Check my blog at Dressing Cats for information on ordering a custom human clothing item. You can purchase through Sewing Box Designs on Etsy.

I enjoy designing, patterning and sewing for Ball Joint Dolls(aka BJDs). It's the perfect hobby for someone like me, born with the creative overload gene. The range for artistry and design for these beautifully made dolls in 1/4 and 1/3 scale is just a delight. Working with ball joint dolls allows me to do the intensely couture boutique work that was the whole reason for my majoring in Fashion. Embroidery, bead work, applique, quilting, hat making, anything that strikes me as inspiration when I see a piece of fabric, lends itself to this hobby. And, if I'm not careful, things will begin to pile up!

Naturally, I want to share my work with others and offer something unique to doll owners. There are a lot of great doll clothing makers and companies out there; but just as when we are shopping for ourselves, and wondering why we can't find what we want in our size, our style, our color...our dolls have the same challenge. That's why I sew for my own dolls. That's why I would like to sew for your dolls.

And now that I'm sewing for people again, I'm looking for customers who want clothing that is just as fun; vintage reproduction, sci-fi, you name it! ^_^

Thank you for looking!

Rajendora ^_^

I've been sewing and tailoring for people for ages, and now I really enjoy working with ball joint dolls. My specialty is making custom patterns, and I enjoy the challenge of playing "fairy godmother" to make someone's dream outfit come true.

SAFETY DISCLAIMER: Ball Joint Dolls are not intended as child's toys, nor are the other items I make for BJDs.

# Quality:Everything I make will be clean, pre-washed and preshrunk, and as odorless as the manufactured goods I purchased to make the items. Items are described as best as possible, along with photographs. Be aware that computer screens show slight variations in color. All items are made from supplies sold as new in normal craft and fabric stores in the USA, with no warnings or otherwise of any harmful properties that I am aware of when I purchase them. I will put specific care instructions in with each item listing, so save the page when you order.

# Items made of Recycled fabrics and notions: Anything I make from recycled fabric will be listed as such and has been tested for wear and tear, to be certain that the fabric is not rotten with age. I use new thread at all times. I might use recycled, distressed (jean knees!) or dyed fabrics for certain doll clothing to achieve a naturally worn, lived in look and will list the item as such. If you have vintage/recycled fabric you want me to use in a custom order, I have no problem with that as long as it is sturdy enough. Please be aware that Dye is a BJDs natural foe and every precaution must be taken. I soak all fabric until the water runs clear, and still do not ever trust blues or reds. Blue dye can hold out forever, it seems. If you store your dolls in a humid climate, don't leave them in dark clothing or shoes.

# Custom Orders: I take pride in my work, I love a good challenge sewing for dolls, and I will only accept custom orders I feel totally confident in completing. Please be willing to provide all the measurements needed. It takes a lot more than just bust, waist and hip size to make a properly fitting pattern.

!! IMPORTANT !! For Custom made items, communication is key. The item is made as agreed upon in what may be many discussions with double checking on both ends, a contract and receipts.

# Returns/Refunds: Based on individual basis. Once again, please read descriptions and measurements carefully before ordering. I can guarantee you will get what you pay for, in good condition, as described on the listing, but I can not emphasize enough how important it is to know your doll's measurements. Too many purchases online are disappointments because of measurements and I work hard to avoid that. I only purchase my own doll's shoes from companies who post full, useful measurements, rather than "SD" or "MSD", because we all know one size does not fit all. Also, doll companies constantly work to improve their molds and often go through generations of body shapes and sizes, so it's very important to know your doll's measurements by taking them yourself and writing them down for when you order. ^_^

# Once your purchase is in the hands of the Post Office or shipping company of your choice, I can literally do nothing to control its trip to you. They are responsible at that point. If you wish insurance or tracking or any service the shipping company provides, please inform me at the time of your purchase and the appropriate charges will be applied.
Payment
July 6, 2011

I include everything in my item price with no hidden add on charges for the customer, except shipping, which is obviously on a one-to-one basis.
Shipping
In stock items will be shipped with in 2 to 4 days of payment confirmation. I live three blocks from the Post Office, so no worries there! ^_^ If you wish to add any special services such as tracking and expedited shipping, please let me know in your original order.

I ship via United States Postal Service, with delivery confirmation by default. That's 4-7 working days after shipping within the continental USA, and 2 to 4 weeks world wide. (Or so the post office says, but I've known it to be 2 weeks or less average!) I can't do business with countries the USA or PayPal are not doing business with.

Please note that on orders of more than 2 items, I will find out the postage rate and refund any over charges. ^_^ I just want to be certain that there are enough funds to cover the items concerned. I'd rather give a refund than have to say, Oops, I have to charge you more.
Additional policies and FAQs
I love sewing for ball joint dolls. I make everything with the idea that if it were in my size, I would wear it. I take inspiration for my doll's clothing designs from what real people, not dolls wear. I like Steampunk, Goth, Japanese Lollie, Retro 20th Century, and classic basics. I also love anime and manga, and get inspiration from manga artists.

In order to assure that the clothing looks natural on the doll, I do not use thick fabrics, velcro, or zippers which stiffen small garments, or over lock everything which adds bulk and creates that 'doll clothing' look you see in the older picture of certain fashion dolls. Doll joints, especially the newer 'double joints' can add extra unexpected length to a dolls arms and legs when they are posed. All my guys need an extra inch in their hems to sit down without their pants creeping up to the knees, so you will notice slacks look like they are too long. I just fold the hem up for photography and then when they sit down, I can unfold it to cover their shins. Buttons in proportions to use for dolls are hard to come by and I do my best to come up with a solution.

I use 'vintage' sewing techniques and tailoring methods, and over-edge exposed seams with a more flexible knit zig-zag setting rather than using the serger by default. I save the serger for handkerchief hems and knits where it will add quality rather than detract from it.

All items will be washed when made and packed in plastic, with content and care instructions. All fabric I use is pre-washed to get rid of excess dyes and preshrink it before I cut any doll garment out to sew.

Thank you for the time it took to read all of this! ^_^
