Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Vintage patterns vary in sizing and may be single-size or multi-size, which is always indicated on the front of the envelope.

Single-size patterns include only the size listed on the envelope (e.g., Size 12, Bust 34").

Multi-size patterns cover a size range shown on the front (e.g., Sizes 10–14).

You’ll find the full size chart with body measurements for bust, waist, and hips on the back of the envelope. This chart reflects body measurements, not the finished garment size, which can vary by design and intended ease.

Tip: I recommend choosing your pattern size based on your bust measurement.
If you're between sizes, it's generally easier to alter a garment down than to size it up.

Care instructions

To preserve your vintage pattern for years to come, follow these care tips:

• Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
• Keep the pattern in the protective bag provided with your purchase.
• Avoid damp areas like basements, as excessive moisture can damage vintage paper.
• For any tears, use archival-quality, acid-free mending tape. Standard household tapes can yellow and deteriorate over time.

These patterns are delicate pieces of sewing history—caring for them properly helps them last another lifetime.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Yes! Gift wrapping or special packaging is available upon request—just ask at checkout or send me a message. I'm happy to make your order extra special.

Studio Space and Storage Conditions

Each pattern in my shop is carefully cleaned, inspected, and preserved before being listed. Here's what that includes:

• Tissue pieces are gently pressed and refolded for ease of use and safe storage
• Patterns are checked for completeness and any tears are repaired with archival-quality, acid-free mending tape
• All patterns are stored in archival-safe sleeves with acid-free board backing
• My studio is equipped with HEPA and UV air filtration , creating a clean, climate-controlled environment
• Patterns are handled with care to avoid unnecessary wear, and shipped flat to protect their condition

Whether you're sewing or collecting, you can feel confident you're receiving a well-preserved piece of fashion history.

Do you clean your patterns? What about dust, allergens, or mold?

Yes. Each vintage pattern is carefully inspected and gently cleaned before listing. Here's how I handle potential concerns:

• Patterns are lightly surface-cleaned to remove dust and debris without harming the paper
• Any patterns showing signs of active mold are immediately discarded and never sold.
• Patterns with historical signs of water damage and potential signs of inactive mold are discarded and never sold.
• All patterns are stored and shipped in archival-safe sleeves for preservation

While every effort is made to minimize allergens, these are original vintage materials and may carry a faint vintage scent or trace particles from previous storage. If you have sensitivities, please reach out before ordering—I'm happy to help

What is foxing on vintage paper?

Foxing refers to the small brown or reddish spots that sometimes appear on old paper. It’s caused by age, humidity, and oxidation, not mold growth. You'll often see it on antique books, postcards, and vintage sewing patterns.

🧵 Is it safe?
Yes—foxing is purely cosmetic and not harmful or active. It doesn’t affect the function of the pattern and is not associated with health risks
