How Shay & Ruby Began...
As stay-at-home mom looking to find myself again when my daughter started school, I knew I wanted to do something creative. So, I finally dusted off the sewing machine my husband bought me years ago. Learning to sew wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but with the help of YouTube and TikTok, I kept going — and what started as a creative outlet slowly turned into something more.
Within about a year, I opened my Etsy shop — and I haven’t looked back. I truly enjoy making each piece, from choosing fabrics to the final stitch. Most designs are inspired by items I want to use myself, for everyday life and travel. We love traveling, especially to Disney, and I wanted practical, well-made pieces that could come along for the ride.
Other items are inspired by my daughter, Shay, and the need for simple, kid-friendly favorites that are both functional and fun. Everything in my shop is handmade in my home studio.
This shop represents taking a chance on something new, learning as you go, and finding joy in the creative process. I hope it serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to try something new or take a chance on yourself.
