This gorgeous bag exceeded expectations. The leather is high end, the stitching is perfect, very well made. It is the perfect size to actually hold everything you need, not just your phone and wallet. It holds its shape without bulging weirdly when you fill it. The interior is lined without cheapening the quality of the bag. The handle is made from a supple leather that is gentle on your shoulder and makes it easy to wear for long periods. It works as a sling bag and rests flat against my body when in a crowd. Also works as a shoulder bag and looks elegant in every setting. I am just so pleased with the workmanship and quality. Much nicer than name brand bags of the same price range. Highly recommend.

At AMASOUK, every bag starts with a place.

Founded in 2019, the brand began in the souks of Marrakech — narrow lanes lined with leather workshops where the same families have been tanning and weaving for generations. What started as a single collection of woven leather and hand-stitched goods has since grown into direct partnerships with artisan cooperatives across three countries.

In Oaxaca, Mexico, we work with Zapotec weavers who use traditional floor and pedal looms to produce handwoven wool textiles with geometric patterns drawn from pre-Hispanic ruins like Mitla and Monte Albán. Many of the symbols woven into AMASOUK bags carry deep cultural meaning to the communities that created them—we take that seriously.

In Marrakech, Morocco, our partners include women-run cooperatives whose craftspeople handweave and hand-stitch vegetable-tanned leather using techniques passed down through generations. The leather is treated with plant-based products only.

In Himeji, Japan, we work with leather artisans known for producing some of the finest vegetable-tanned leather in the world, slow-tanned using traditional plant-based methods and finished by hand.

Every AMASOUK piece is produced in small batches. We work without middlemen, which means fair wages reach the people who do the work, and you get something made with genuine care rather than manufactured at scale.

Mallory has always been drawn to the people behind the craft—the weavers, leatherworkers, and artisans whose techniques outlast trends. AMASOUK is built on those connections.

Maker

Rkia leads Fano Jild, a women's leatherworking cooperative in Marrakech's medina. With roots in tailoring, she brings a rare eye for detail to leather and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of women artisans.
Fatiha

Maker

Fatiha joined Fano Jild at its founding in 2017, learning leatherworking from her brother before deepening her craft within the cooperative. She takes designs and makes them real, detail by detail, with a smile that never wavers.
Ibtissam

Maker

Ibtissam learned to braid leather before she could read. Souad's daughter, she grew up in the workshop and never really left, Braiding demands full concentration and a sharp memory, and she has mastered both.
Souad

Maker

Souad learned leatherworking from her husband, a master artisan, and never stopped. She co-founded Fano Jild to create work that honors Moroccan craft tradition, and to ensure other women could build a livelihood doing the same.
Josefina & Paco

Maker

Josefina learned to weave from her husband Paco and never looked back. Twenty years in, she designs patterns, dyes wool, and finishes bags for other weavers. "I forget the world when I begin to dye the colors," she says.
Rocio & Omar

Maker

Rocío learned to weave from her mother at six. Decades later, she designs patterns inspired by sunrise, birds, and corn, and still gets a thrill seeing the finished bag. "Oh yes," she says. "That's how I imagined it."
Antonia & Tomas

Maker

Antonia chooses the colors and Zapotec patterns. Tomás weaves the samples. They pass the work back and forth until it ships. "When he completes a step, I take up the next one," she says. "We share everything."
Malena & Hugo

Maker

Malena learned to weave from her grandfather at ten, starting with simple patterns and growing into complex designs. She and Hugo work every step together. Her favorite moment: when the colors and design finally click.
Shinya & Taka

Maker

Taka and Shinya discovered leathercraft while traveling, then trained in a tannery before opening their own atelier. They now run workshops and are reviving shironameshi, a traditional, chemical-free tanning method.
Hasna

Marketer

In 2021, Hasna reached out after noticing untapped potential in its social presence. Since then, she has become an integral part of the team, shaping the brand’s storytelling, assisting with artisan relations in Morocco, and taking part in shoots.
Ana Cris

Designer

Ana Cris is a designer & weaver who collaborates with our artisan partners in Oaxaca. Through co-design, dialogue, and shared creativity, she helps shape collections that honor tradition while creating bags for contemporary life.
