Designs with my friends in mind
I have always enjoyed working with my hands and learning how to make things. Years ago, I started getting requests from friends and family and had thoughts of turning it into a business. But working full time (sometimes more than full time), I was never able to do it as more than a hobby.
In 2022, I got laid off from a 19-year career in the mortgage industry. After trying a couple of things, I was praying for some direction when a dear friend shared something on Facebook that spoke to me.
Student says, “I am very discouraged. What should I do?”
Master says, “Encourage others.”
That’s when I realized that I am most happy when I am creating things that bring others joy. Woodworking Chic has become about more than just woodworking and home improvement projects. To reflect this new direction, Woodworking Chic is now Best Friend Designs.
I’ve started creating handmade home décor, t-shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, and much more with messages or designs that have special meaning and/or have been requested by family and friends. Many of my designs come with a story.
For example, the saying, “My favorite people call me Nana” is the first thing my oldest grandson learned to read since we have it on a board on the shelves in our breakfast room. And now I’ve created a t-shirt and coffee mug that can be personalized so that others can feel that same joy.
Here’s another example, many of you know I love to sing. I designed a t-shirt and a coffee mug with the phrase, “Just keep singing your own song.” The message is both personal and inspirational.
