An Approach to Native Gardening Rooted in Curiosity & Balance
Ganderling sprouted from a love of native plants, quiet forests, and the small wildlife that depend on them. What began as seed collecting and restoring our own landscape gradually grew into a shop focused on ethically sourced native seeds and habitat-friendly gardening.
Drawn to the beauty and resilience of native plants — and the role they play in supporting pollinators, birds, and healthy ecosystems — a deeper connection to the natural world began to take root. Observing seasonal changes, listening for birdsong through the day and the chorus of toads and frogs at night, softened by the haunting trill of the screech owl, revealed how deeply grounding and restorative a connection to nature can be.
The work follows the rhythm of the seasons. The song of the Carolina Wren announces the changing season and the search for spring ephemerals emerging from the seedbank begins. Summer is spent observing blooms and pollinator activity, autumn is dedicated to seed collecting and cleaning, and winter becomes a quieter season to preparing for the year ahead.
Seeds are cleaned, stored, and packaged carefully in small batches. I do my best to provide honest growing information, realistic expectations, and species that are well suited for both manicured gardens and habitat-focused spaces.
My hope is to offer a native gardening experience that feels approachable, rewarding, and rooted in curiosity rather than perfection. Whether you’re restoring a landscape or planting your very first native pollinator bed, I’m grateful you’re here.
Thank you for supporting small-scale seed stewardship, native ecosystems, and natural landscapes where people and wildlife can find balance together.
