En noviembre de 2013, comencé una tienda de Etsy, ShoshShop. He estado elaborando toda mi vida, pero nunca se me pasó por la cabeza para vender nada. Solía rogarle a mi madre que me llevara a Michael's cuando era más joven. Compraba un kit al azar, hacía uno del conjunto de cualquier nueva técnica que me interesara y seguí adelante. Mi mamá dijo que tenía ADD artesanal. Solo quería saber cómo hacer todo. Pero cuando compras un juego de montañas rusas de mosaico, ¿por qué no hacer los dos malditos posavasos? Lo superé una vez que hice uno. Márcalo de la lista y sigue adelante. ¡LOL!
Quince años después, he dominado toneladas de técnicas artesanales. Y sorprendentemente está dando sus frutos. Mi mamá tenía razón, pero yo también... la historia de mi vida. Durante Snowmeggeden, una enorme tormenta de nieve que azotó DC hace unos años, estuve atrapado en la casa durante 8 días seguidos y aprendí a tejer. Compré el popular libro Stitch n Bitch y vi horas de videos de YouTube.
Con un inventario decente de productos hechos a mano, lancé ShoshShop para la temporada navideña y cuando el invierno acababa de comenzar. Durante los largos meses de invierno, vendía coronas de fieltro hechas a mano, que son perfectas para exhibir durante todo el año, bufandas Infinity de doble lazo, bandas de mano de punto de cable y diademas ceñidas. La tienda ha superado con creces mis expectativas y la temporada navideña estaba increíblemente ocupada. Ahora estoy totalmente motivado e inspirado para seguir adelante.
Voy a rotar mis líneas de productos para satisfacer mi amor por todas las artesanías. A continuación..... joyería.
November 2013, I started an Etsy shop, ShoshShop. I have been crafting my entire life, but never crossed my mind to sell anything. I used to beg my mom to take me to Michael’s when I was younger. I would buy some random kit, made one of the set of whatever new technique I was interested in and moved on. My mom said I had craft ADD. I just wanted to know how to do everything. But when you buy a mosaic coaster set, why not make both of the damn coasters. I was over it once I did one. Check it off the list and move on. LOL!
Fifteen years later, I have mastered tons of craft techniques. And shockingly it is paying off. My mom was right, but so was I…the story of my life. During Snowmeggeden, a huge blizzard that hit DC a few years ago, I was stuck in the house for 8 straight days and taught myself how to knit. I bought the popular book Stitch n Bitch and watched hours of YouTube videos.
With a decent inventory of handmade goods, I launched ShoshShop for the holiday season and as winter was just kicking off. For the extended winter months, I was selling handmade, felt wreaths, which are perfect for year-round display, Double-Loop Infinity Scarves, Cable knit handbands and cinched headbands. The shop has far exceeded my expectations and the holiday season was insanely busy. I’m now totally motivated and inspired to keep it going.
I am going to be rotating my product lines to fulfill my love of all crafts. Next up.....jewelry.
