Shutters With Pizzazz
Our names are Andrew and Jamie and we are the husband-and-wife team behind Shutter Charms. We own and operate Shutter Charms in beautiful Alexandria, VA. We work full-time jobs and spend our free moments, weekends, and evenings on the Shutter Charms business. We hand assemble each Shutter Magnet Kit and we laser cut each cutout. Everything we sell is packaged, labeled, and shipped by the two of us.
In the summer of 2020, while stuck at home during the pandemic, we constructed new wood shutters for our home but felt our shutters lacked pizzazz. We considered cutting a shape into the shutters but there were so many possibilities. A butterfly? A fox? An owl? A dragon? We couldn’t decide. Soon we found ourselves with buckets of magnets, rolls of adhesive, and a pile of cutout shapes. We spent months testing materials in our backyard. Eventually our shutters were decorated with butterflies, foxes, owls, and dragons. Come October they were decorated with pumpkins and ghosts, in November it was turkeys, and in December it was Christmas trees, snowmen, and snowflakes. We called the decorative magnetic ornaments Shutter Charms and after many months of hard work we opened our Etsy small business in February, 2021.
We designed Shutter Charms to be multi-functional. Although called "Shutter Charms" they work great as interior decorative magnets, such as refrigerator magnets. But unlike refrigerator magnets, Shutter Charms can be used outdoors and can even be used to decorate non-magnetic surfaces!
To decorate non-magnetic surfaces, such as vinyl or wood shutters, we designed Shutter Magnet Kits that include a magnet (we call it a Shutter Magnet) that easily attaches with adhesive and/or a small screw so most any plastic or wood surface is capable of being decorated with Shutter Charms. Once the Shutter Magnet is attached, Shutter Charms magnetically adhere to the Shutter Magnet.
Shutter Charms easily attach and detach from the Shutter Magnet so that Shutter Charms are interchangeable. An object, such as a shutter, can be decorated with one Shutter Charm one day and a different Shutter Charm the next day. This feature makes them especially useful for holiday decorating. For example, one can decorate with a pumpkin in October, a turkey in November, and then a Christmas tree in December.
Shutter Charms are great for decorating shutters but may be used to decorate whatever your imagination dreams. Other possible uses include decorating a fence, door, shed, mailbox, even something as unique as a backyard chicken coop. We hope to see Shutter Charms creatively installed and used in ways we never even imagined.
