Sign Maker to Nurse to Sign Maker. Back to my roots!
I just opened this shop November 1st, 2021!! Finally! After YEARS of dreaming about it, here I am doing it!:)
My Love of Sign Making started when I began working at Sign Craft as a young 16 year. A tiny 7 foot wide sign shop on Ocean City Maryland's famous boardwalk! This was my favorite "job" where we worked hard and had so much fun doing it! We had a booth at Springfest and Sunfest crafters fairs every year! If you ever visited us and had one of our beautiful custom made to order wood or slate signs made, or maybe bought a troll, or a children's step stool, then I probably had some part in the process or perhaps even waited on you. I met some many great people there and just loved to hand someone a completed sign that they absolutely love and they cherish for years to come!
Georgette Metro was Sign Craft's owner and to see a woman follow her passion like she did was the best mentorship I could have had. She set up on the sidewalk of a Piggly Wiggly many years ago in Gatlinburg, Tennessee after seeing someone carving a sign and knowing she wanted to do it. She asked to borrow there electric and persevered until she had her own little shop on the boardwalk, where she was well loved. Not only has she been a mentor, but she has been a friend and like a second mom. I will always be grateful for her teaching my this skill. Georgette has been retired for several years now and am so very grateful she gave me the blessing to continue with the name Sign Craft.
I went to college while working at Sign Craft and became a nurse, mostly because I was convinced by those around me that it was the right thing to do. I love being a nurse and am currently a Nurse Manager of a Hospital Center. However, being a Sign Maker is my passion!! I have visions of making this my full-time and I really appreciate your support!
I also have 3 great kids ages 21, 19, and 7 who are my light and my reason. I can't thank my supportive boyfriend enough who has encouraged me over the last 9 years to go after what ever my heart desired. He has supported me through all the procrastination crafts while I found the courage to truly take the big leap and do what my heart has always desired, this..
So this is my story and proof that dreams do come true. This has been 20+ years in the making.. Follow those dreams!;*
