I was around for the 200th. Now here we are at the 250th Anniversary of the USA.

A midwestern GenX kid raised on grandmother's 40 acres — tractors, motorcycles, and a grandfather who taught me that old coins weren't just pocket change but pieces of the lives that spent them. That was 50 years ago. I never stopped.

I watched Space Invaders, Cable TV (Home Box Office), the World Wide Web, cell phones, and now AI arrive one after another. More technological change in fifty years than the previous two centuries combined. And somewhere in all that acceleration, coins and paper currency are quietly becoming relics — artifacts of the 250 years we are now celebrating, likely gone from daily life in the next fifty.

These coins have been through the human daily grind — changing hands, crossing oceans, riding in soldiers' pockets and farmers' overalls. War-worn, weather-worn, pocket-worn. Each one traveled to places we can only imagine before landing here.

At Smooth Turtle, we wanted to share some of that heritage before it disappears entirely. We figured America's 250th was the right moment to pass a few of them forward.
