A beautiful mix
Hola, soy Sol. American es mi quinta nacionalidad. Soy latina, pero no me identifico con el Día de los Muertos. Soy judío, pero soy ateo. Soy mejor en gramática que muchos angloparlantes, pero todavía olvido las palabras clave en medio de las conversaciones. Soy migrante y nací en una familia de migrantes.
Cuando era adolescente, hacía autostop por todo Chile durante los veranos vendiendo joyas y artículos de cuero que yo mismo hacía. Años más tarde y ahora establecido en los Estados Unidos, mis diseños traducen mi experiencia como migrante que vive en la vibrante ciudad de Nueva York mezclada con mi anhelo de experiencias en la calma y la apertura de la naturaleza.
Actualmente vivo en Nueva York, a través de mi práctica artesanal trato de estar en sintonía con los sentimientos de conexión y aventura que disfruté viajando por Chile, todavía conmovido por los paisajes mágicos que pude presenciar y que llevo dentro de mí donde quiera que esté. Ya sea a través de una pieza de joyería o un colgante de pared, espero que hagas una pausa y encuentres esos espacios silenciosos y abiertos que están dentro de ti.
Hago mis joyas de una pieza a la vez en mi estudio en Queens, con plata de ley reciclada, relleno de oro de 14k y latón. Con una estética global, combino líneas limpias y formas orgánicas, incorporando elementos de textura como el martilleo metálico y el cuero reciclado. El resultado es un arte portátil que es modesto, elegante y distintivo.
Hi, I'm Sol. American is my fifth nationality. I’m Latina, but I don’t identify with the Dia de Los Muertos. I’m Jewish, but I’m an atheist. I’m better at grammar than a lot of English speakers, but I still forget key words in the middle of conversations. I’m a migrant, and was born in a family of migrants.
As a teenager, I hitchhiked throughout Chile during summers selling jewelry and leather goods that I made myself. Years later and now settled in the US, my designs translate my experience as an migrant living in vibrant New York City mixed with my longing for experiences in the calm and openness of nature.
Currently living in NYC, through my craft practice I try to stay tuned to the feelings of connection and adventure I enjoyed traveling through Chile, still moved by the magical landscapes that I was able to witness and that I carry inside me wherever I am. Whether through a piece of jewelry or a wall hanging I hope for you to pause, and find those silent and open spaces that are within you.
I make my jewelry one piece at a time in my studio in Queens, with recycled sterling silver, 14k gold fill and brass. With a global aesthetic, I combine both clean lines and organic shapes, incorporating textural elements such as metal hammering and up-cycled leather. The result is wearable art that is unassuming, graceful and distinctive.
