The Story Behind SOL Handmade
SOL began long before my first bonnet was sewn. During years of fertility treatments, sewing became a creative outlet and a way to slow down through a season that often felt uncertain. When my rainbow baby finally arrived, I found myself drawn to creating pieces inspired by childhood, nostalgia, and the handmade treasures that often become part of family stories.
As my son grew, so did the idea for SOL Handmade. Shortly after his second birthday, I officially launched the shop as a way to share that love of making with other families.
The name SOL, meaning "sun" or "light," felt especially meaningful. It represents hope, warmth, and the light that appeared after a difficult chapter of waiting.
Today, I create heirloom-inspired bonnets, clothing, and accessories from my home studio in Kitchener, Ontario. Many of my pieces begin with carefully sourced vintage linens and textiles found at thrift stores, antique markets, and estate sales. I love the history, craftsmanship, and character found in these forgotten fabrics, and giving them a second life as something new.
Every item is designed, cut, sewn, photographed, and packaged by me. Whether I'm sorting through stacks of vintage sheets, working at my sewing machine, or sketching new ideas over an early morning coffee, my goal is simple: to create thoughtful pieces that are beautiful, practical, and made to last.
