Oi, eu sou sol. americano é minha quinta nacionalidade. Sou latina, mas não me identifico com o Dia de Los Muertos. Sou judeu, mas ateu. Sou melhor em gramática do que muitos falantes de inglês, mas ainda esqueço palavras-chave no meio das conversas. Sou migrante e nasci em uma família de migrantes.
Na adolescência, peguei carona pelo Chile durante os verões vendendo joias e artigos de couro que eu mesmo fiz. Anos depois e agora estabelecido nos EUA, meus projetos traduzem minha experiência como um migrante vivendo na vibrante cidade de Nova York misturado com meu desejo por experiências na calma e abertura da natureza.
Atualmente morando em Nova York, através da minha prática de artesanato tento ficar atento aos sentimentos de conexão e aventura que gostei de viajar pelo Chile, ainda comovido pelas paisagens mágicas que pude testemunhar e que carrego dentro de mim onde quer que esteja. Seja através de uma joia ou de uma parede pendurada espero que você pare, e encontre aqueles espaços silenciosos e abertos que estão dentro de você.
Eu faço minhas joias uma peça de cada vez no meu estúdio no Queens, com prata esterlina reciclada, 14k de ouro e latão. Com uma estética global, combino linhas limpas e formas orgânicas, incorporando elementos texturais como marteladas metálicas e couro de ciclo. O resultado é uma arte vestível que é despretensiosa, graciosa e distinta.
Hi, I'm Sol. American is my fifth nationality. I’m Latina, but I don’t identify with the Dia de Los Muertos. I’m Jewish, but I’m an atheist. I’m better at grammar than a lot of English speakers, but I still forget key words in the middle of conversations. I’m a migrant, and was born in a family of migrants.
As a teenager, I hitchhiked throughout Chile during summers selling jewelry and leather goods that I made myself. Years later and now settled in the US, my designs translate my experience as an migrant living in vibrant New York City mixed with my longing for experiences in the calm and openness of nature.
Currently living in NYC, through my craft practice I try to stay tuned to the feelings of connection and adventure I enjoyed traveling through Chile, still moved by the magical landscapes that I was able to witness and that I carry inside me wherever I am. Whether through a piece of jewelry or a wall hanging I hope for you to pause, and find those silent and open spaces that are within you.
I make my jewelry one piece at a time in my studio in Queens, with recycled sterling silver, 14k gold fill and brass. With a global aesthetic, I combine both clean lines and organic shapes, incorporating textural elements such as metal hammering and up-cycled leather. The result is wearable art that is unassuming, graceful and distinctive.
