Representation Matters
Hello from Kelowna, British Columbia! Allow me to introduce you to my sassy, sloth-y, poetry-y (?) self!
I have always been creative-minded. When I was 6, I decided I'd be a writer when I grew up; 23 years later, I've finished my master's degree in creative writing and am partway through a PhD. Don't let anyone tell you I lack follow-through! Along the way I also dabbled in sewing, taught myself how to crochet, and "fine-tuned" my clarinet skills. (Did I mention I also love puns?) As an introvert, art offered a means to express myself in a way that felt quiet and safe.
Every item in my shop represents my personality and core values. There's some variety – funny sayings, uplifting affirmations, sassy bad bitch energy – but the underlying thread is this: Representation Matters.
Art is how I've always made myself feel like I belong. I have a number of chronic illnesses, which have the power to feel isolating. But creating art is like creating a space for myself – I tidy the furniture, hang some nice pictures on the walls, and feel like I'm home. Maybe I can hang some pictures on your walls, too?
