5 out of 5 starsThe monocord is perfectly handcrafted. It’s taken me a while to tune being a newcomer at string I steamers. But now sounds so beautiful. Joel is supper helpful in assisting me the whole way through. And even sent it express with a few surprises inside. I can definitely feel his passion and love he puts into to making these instruments.

5 out of 5 starsThis is a beautiful instrument. Once properly tuned it creates beautiful overtones like another song or melody playing on top of the notes, it creates waves that build on each other layering the sound, and has excellent resonance that fills the room. Definitely get the hard case if you are shipping as mine had to go through customs and the box was open but the monochord was fine because of the hard case. Be aware that you will have to tune it. I did not understand that and was initially alarmed by the sound. I was not familar with tuning so Joel pointed me to videos and then did a zoom with me to make sure I had it right which was above and beyond. I do 4 stars as it would be good to communicate these things up front instead of being surprised.

What is the tone or tuning of the instrument?
I normally tune my instruments in C or D, wich is a general nice tuning for voice and other instruments to fit in. So, strings that are in the instrument are for tuning in this tone C, C# or D, the strings have this one tone range margin.
Smaller models like tablet Monochord has 2 octaves of C (c3 and c4) and the fifth (2 to 3) wich is g3, and they have from 20 to 25 strings. Biter models have up to 37 strings, or 49 (only table Monochord) and they have 3 octaves plus the fifth. That is C2, c3, g3 and c4.
