Certified Redhead Badass Welder Mom
Midlife crisis? Artistic impulse? Something for myself after years and years of staying home momming? Call it what you will, but a year ago, I decided to go back to school and get a welding certificate. I don't think my husband could believe his ears...(luckily, he supports me 100%.) What seems like a long long time ago, I attended the University of Kansas and earned a degree in both metalsmithing and graphic design, worked in both fields, but then easily gave it up to stay home with my two daughters. When my oldest was about ready to head off to college herself, I decided to get motivated. So, I spent a year driving 80 miles a day to a local community college to learn how to oxy cut, plasma cut, stick, tig and mig weld! I had the time of my life and met many great hardworking people. Those people were learning welding as a trade. Most of them would end up taking jobs as pipe welders or at steel yards...but I had other plans. The result (so far) is Sparkwork Studio! I love metal...and I wanted to create things that showed my style and could also be fun. I can say that getting my welding certificate was the best most satisfying thing I've done in a long time...I'm so happy under the hood and I'm having the time of my life!
