The Surreal, the Ethereal, and the Darkly Feminine--these are the themes of my works.
I am a self-taught photographic artist that picked up a camera after my career as a ballet dancer came to its end. It was not an intentional thing. Out of necessity, I took pictures of a fledgling ballet company that I was creating and directing. The company is no more but I didn't put the camera down. Photography has proven to be such a necessary creative outlet for me now that my stage career is over and it certainly has been something of a salvation. In between teaching ballet classes and choreographing, I am devising shoots and creating art work in all those in between pockets of time and into the wee hours of morning. I deeply enjoy the process as I enjoy so much independence and autonomy in my art work.
While my work is both on the side of the ethereal and feminine to the morbid and dark, my endeavors are to always have a hint of story in each and every image. My darker images are ones that most resonate with me, personally, as I do identify with the outcast and outsider. It's in those dark margins, those unwritten fictions, that I feel I most find myself--in an a shadow of a story in an opulent ruin, a creature of the wrong time and space, a ghost that silently lurks in a fractured fairy tale that drips in Gothic style.
I sincerely hope you find something that resonates with you and deeply appreciate your visit to my shop.
