Sizes our customers asked us to make
I'm Christina, and I've been sewing SpotPack heat packs from my home studio in Brisbane since 2012. What started as a few packs for friends with sore necks is now more than 1,800 orders here on Etsy, plus shelves in pharmacies, physio clinics and shops from Cairns to Randwick.
Almost every size in this shop exists because a customer asked for it.
Someone wanted a pack that would stay put on their shoulders while they worked at a desk, so we designed the one with the collar. Someone with a bad lower back wanted one they could tie on and still walk around in, so we made the back strap. People kept telling us the standard packs weren't long enough to reach across a whole back, so we made the Mega Large, and then the Ex-Large after that. The Mini came from parents wanting something small enough for a child's tummy.
Every one of those started as a message from someone describing what they actually needed, and several of them are now our best sellers. Our customers know better than we do, and we listen.
That's still how it works. If you'd like a different size, a different shape, or a fabric you haven't seen here, send me a message. I keep far more fabric in the cupboard than ever makes it onto a listing, and I'm always happy to make something to your measurements.
The fabrics matter to us as much as the fit. We buy in small runs from designers whose work we love - Jocelyn Proust, Kristen Katz, Laura Wayne, Anna Blatman and Tara Reed - which is why a print you fall for today might be gone next month. Many of them are Australian natives, flowers and animals. Every pack is double-sided: designer cotton on one side for the look, soft corduroy on the other for the feel against your skin.
And what's inside is the part most people don't think to ask about. Nearly every heat pack you'll find is filled with wheat. Ours are filled with Australian lupin seed. It's virtually odourless when heated, there's no wheat dust, and it holds its warmth noticeably longer. It costs us more. It's worth it.
Please note that lupin is a legume, and some people with a peanut or legume allergy can react to it. If that's you, please check with your doctor before using one of our packs.
Everything is cut, sewn, filled and packed by me. Nothing is made in advance, so your pack is stitched after you order it.
