While living with a pair of potters back in 1996, Sol picked up a piece of clay and sculpted a simple face. "If I hands and feet," he thought, "I could make a marionette!" And that is how The Squeaking Tribe's story began…
With no real Internet to speak of, he taught himself the basics from what limited literature he could glean from public libraries. Each puppet he made, however, held the seeds for ten more and those ten quickly became a hundred. Every step of the way, he was honing and refining and learning better ways to create the characters locked up inside him. "But these wonderful beings need homes!" he thought.
And so he began touring his interactive effigies through Australia's diverse Festival circuit, exhibiting direct to the public at grassroots events and reminding - indeed, inspiring! - people of the near-forgotten art of puppetry and story-telling.
In 2009, Sol met and fell in love with Canadian artist and wood-worker, Sara Lee, who brought her own creative flare to his unique designs. Together, they continue to fabricate fabulous works of art which become vessels for everyone's imagination. Fantastic and whimsical, bewitching and delightful, these characters are ready to be cast in your very own Tales of Wonder!
