Ceramic Elements for Fiber and Macrame Artists
As a fiber and macrame artist myself, I hunted for interesting beads and other embellishments to use in my work. I wanted things that were modern and could go with many decor styles. When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I asked a ceramic artist friend if he would make things for me. His response was to offer the use of his studio so I could make them myself.
I graduated from art school and worked as a graphic designer for 25 years. In school, I was required to take a couple of ceramics classes, but it had been a very long time since I worked with clay. However, once I got started again, I had so much fun and so many ideas that I quickly outgrew my own needs and decided to start Stacia Schaefer Design to sell my work.
This name encompasses both my fiber and ceramic work, although I primarily only sell the ceramics on Etsy. My beads and other ceramic pieces are designed and created with the fiber artist in mind, and work well for wall hangings, tapestries, plant hangers, purses, clothes, and jewelry. I've also had customers use my beads for such things as garden totems, tunnels in fish tanks, and dreadlock decorations.
