I love retro gaming consoles, particularly those made from the 1970's - 1990's. These consoles are starting to fail of natural causes and are commonly in need of repair. For many of these consoles, repair parts have not been available for decades - but these consoles are my cherished treasures and I don't want them to disappear. So while servicing and repairing my own consoles as they aged, I started designing repair parts that others can use to repair, refurbish, and customize their own consoles.
There are a variety of reasons consoles become damaged. Some systems suffer from failing electrolytic capacitors, which leak acid all over the PCB that can cause damage to the traces. Other times, they have been improperly stored for a prolonged period of time - humidity can damage boards, and flooding in basements, or from natural disasters such as hurricanes or typhoons can also leave a board in a dire state.
Many times, the core chips that are the heart of these boards are still intact because they are a sealed package. Using replacement boards designed for repair, these consoles can be restored to their original state and enjoyed by people for many years to come. In recent years, hobbyists have started designing replacement boards for these systems in order to solve this problem. I am participating in that effort, open sourcing my designs and making them available to the community at an affordable price in today's challenging market conditions.
