Welcome to My Etsy Shop - Statements By Design!
There is a saying that if you do what you love, you will find success. I thought I would apply this advice when deciding what to sell in my Etsy shop. With this in mind, I looked to a few of my life long interests for inspiration - art, gardening, and nature. As a young mother, I obtained a degree in art and became an interior designer. In the pursuing years, I became interested in gardening - probably from watching too much HGTV! - and wanted to be closer to nature. As a result, we moved to a rural area just outside of San Diego where we are surrounded by an abundance of nature.
Recently, I added another interest to my list - shopping at thrift stores! I have always loved shopping, but had never shopped at thrift stores until I needed to buy "gently used" furnishings for two apartments in a homeless shelter. Roaming through the thrift shops and seeing vintage items reminded me of my childhood and was great fun.
Examining my interests, it became apparent that creating garden art would be something that would satisfy my creative side. With the help of my husband, I am now creating sun catchers, halos, and pinwheels and am having a great time. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind work that is composed from carefully selected pieces of glass and ceramic.
Of course, I also plan to create the occasional piece for use in the home and offer vintage pieces that I and my friends have accumulated throughout the years. And, who knows what else in the future!
