MY STORY... I have been interested in miniatures from the early age of six, after devotedly watching "The Friendly Giant" on Canada's CBC television station back in the 1960's.
When I was 7, my mother bought me my very first Barbie doll. I LOVED HER and so for the next 10 years, I was HOOKED ON BARBIE ...and I mean, Really Hooked!
Yet I have always loved books and when I was about 17 or 18, I was a loyal fan of Georgette Heyer and of her Regency Romance Novels. I started making my own small regency character dolls out of bits of cotton, wire, paint and felt. And just as in my old Barbie Doll days, they needed a place to live, so I stacked large cardboard grocery cartons, one on top of the other, and cut out doors and windows, then decorated the interiors to reflect the regency stories that I had, so voraciously, been reading.
At 21 I got married, and my husband said "No Way" to all those Big and Sagging grocery boxes and "asked" ( read, "Told" ) me to make my dolls smaller so that they and the rooms, would fit into our small apartment's small bookcase. Reluctantly I complied, and in doing so, I just happened to stumble onto One Twelfth Scale Miniatures!
From that point on, there has been no looking back because it was the just like the finding "The Friendly Giant" all over again.
By the way, I still have most of those original felt dolls that I made, stored in a box in my garage. It is very humbling to look back and remember those very early Beginnings.
Ahhh, ... the innocence and the ignorance ...
BECAUSE I WISH THAT I STILL HAD EVERY ONE OF MY ORIGINAL BARBIE DOLLS TOO!!! Whaaaaaa!!!!! >< WHO KNEW???? :((
