Inspired by History & Handcrafted With Love

The jewelry I make has several qualities that I find really important. One, it's pretty and I would want to wear it myself. Two, it is very well made. I for one HATE when I have a piece of jewelry and it breaks. I try very hard to construct my pieces in such a way to keep them from breaking from normal wear and tear, and if a piece that I make EVER breaks, send it back and I will fix it for free. Three, it has to inspire me. When I make something it comes from a place of inspiration, I go for a walk, or I read a book and that translates into what I am making, it's a little piece of it. I realize that what inspires me might not inspire others, but it's my feeling that the intention goes into the work. You get a FEELING when you wear a piece of jewelry that was made with intention and inspiration. You don't get that when you wear jewelry that was made in a factory or even "handmade" in an assembly line.

I started making jewelry (and other arts and crafts) as a young child and never stopped. Jewelry and art run in my family, my great grandfather was a jewelry artisan, and my great grandmother would help him out, as would all of the children at home (read, long hours of untangling chain at the dinner table). She also did her own beaded necklaces that I have a couple of. My other great grandmother made beautiful intricate beaded Victorian Christmas ornaments and beaded dolls. My grandfather was a professional artist and photographer as well as musician, my grandmother enjoyed making stained glass and mosaics. My father dabbled in lots of creative outlets, and my mother has always been very creative in the kitchen, and makes beautiful cakes! The first jewelry I really made were copies of macramé necklaces that my mom made. To be compelled to create is in our genetic make up, so it would seem.

In high school I would skip my other classes and stay in the art or music department, I have NO IDEA why the teacher would let me but she would. It was the only place I felt alive. I met the young gentleman who would later become my husband my senior year of high school. He has always supported my many endeavors, no matter how many I start and don't finish. To be married to a creative person means having a life full of unfinished projects! We grew up, got married and had children while he was going back to college.

We found that both of our children have autism as well as some other heath concerns, so between running them to various therapy and doctor appointments there was not much time for me to make ends meet, let alone be creative. But if you are a creative person, you can't really stop that flow, even if you don't have the energy, time or resources to do it... it still happens. I began to make jewelry projects that I would take with me and work on in waiting rooms here and there, wherever I could get a moment, or late into the night. People kept telling me "hey, you should sell that!" so finally one day, I listened.

The name of my shop comes from my other passions, history and literature. Many times a historical figure, era, or literary character inspires my work. My shop aesthetic is in homage to my favorite novel, Pride & Prejudice.

Like any working parent my days are a juggling act of homework, housework, and work-work. Having children with special needs is an extra challenge, but I think the best gift of that is it allows you to look at the whole world through different eyes. I recently transitioned to homeschooling my children because I didn't feel the academics were rigorous enough and my kids were having some problems with being bullied. The homeschooling so far has been really rewarding for all of us. My children truly are amazing people, they think of things in ways that the average person never would. They, each in their different ways, are innovators of their worlds. If that is not inspirational then I don't know what is.

Thank you for visiting Studio Regency! As an artist, I've been a long time fan of history and that influences every piece that I make. I have a profound respect and admiration of our foremothers and thus tend to surround myself and produce art that conjures the strong female spirits who have come before us. I am also a hopeless romantic!

I'm not going too far when I say that I have been obsessed with Tudor, Renaissance, and Medieval history for about 20 years now. I've also been a very long time fan of the Regency/Edwardian Era and of all of Jane Austen's celebrated novels (I married my Mr. Darcy!). Much of my work is either exact copies of, or inspired by, period paintings and surviving period pieces.

Each piece I craft is made with loving attention to detail and care. My pieces are heirloom quality. I love to incorporate vintage pieces whenever possible and let the muse inspire me. All of my work is handmade by me.

By shopping with me you are supporting an artist and helping to allow her to be a stay-at-home mother to her two beautiful autistic children. A portion of my profit is donated to Autism Service Dogs of America as well. Thank you!
