5 out of 5 starsLove this book. All my kids have copies; need 1 for a great grandson. Ordered 1 and behold! 2 of my favorites were missing. With research I learned that some years ago (I do not know when exactly) these 2 were removed. Reason given seems ignorant to me: they are said to require sophisticated adult reasoning to avoid instilling chauvinism/racism in children. Seriously! In re Travel: this poem sparked a love of travel & of other cultures in all my children/grandchildren. In re Foreign Children, The superiority of the little English girl, in her proper dress and snooty stance as brilliantly illustrated by Fujikawa, assessing the foreign children in their native dress is alone sufficient to deny her superiority. And then someone should be reading the poems to the kids anyway, right? Thanks to this vendor for this perfect copy
