How the SunForms learned to light
It wasn't dramatic – we'd made it there in time – and there we were, standing in a small shelter at the garden exhibition, seeking shelter from the approaching downpour.
That was when I first encountered the suncatchers (which I'd previously only perceived with incomprehension). Well, they were round discs on poles – so I couldn't really expect much enthusiasm.
But in this situation...
What can I say? Today, the magical glow of suncatchers is well known – and that was half an eternity ago.
And there I stood again – this time, intoxicated by all the possibilities, with exuberant enthusiasm and my head full of ideas about what I could conjure up from the fluorescent acrylic glass.
Originally working in engineering and product design, I should have known in advance what challenges, workload, and hurdles would lie ahead – but all of those things naturally fade away once the euphoria takes hold.
So I gave SunForms their name – laid the foundations and created the possibilities, and then simply "jumped in" at the deep end.
... and I haven't regretted that "jump" for a single day.
SunForms have long since been glowing not only in Germany, but in many parts of Europe. Quite a few have even found their way to the "new world."
I'm not really excited about them because they travel so far, but because not a single SunForm has ever been returned – in almost 14 years now – not a single one. I didn't really expect that either – but today it does make me a little proud.
Over the years, of course, many different SunForms have "learned to glow" – but my brain is still full of new ideas – and it will probably continue like this for many years to come.
The first draft of a new SunForm, its entire development – until I can finally offer it, package it, and "harvest" your enthusiasm – all of that is pretty exciting – but also gives me immense joy.
Always new.
What fun.
