About

The Story of SundayGirl by Amy Di Lamarra

SundayGirl by Amy Di Lamarra started out on Etsy and has grown a lot over the last few years. I started with my zodiac necklaces here on Etsy and now have an entire collection of jewelry which I sell wholesale to retail locations all over the country.

Many of the pieces in my shop are also available wholesale. Store Buyers can view the wholesale collection through Etsy wholesale or by contacting me in a convo.

The Designer:

The passion I have for design started in high school when I began collecting international fashion magazines, especially ones that showed actual Couture runway fashion (we're talking pre-internet). I began to see clothing and accessories as artistic statements and ways to visually communicate things about you. I went on to study costume design and spent the following 7 years working various costume an styling job for the entertainment industry. I knew, however that I wanted to be designing in a different genre.

In 2003 I launched my first business which was luxury leather handbags & belts. It grew quickly and in just a few years I was selling to amazing retailers like Anthropologie, and being featured in major fashion magazines like Marie Claire, Elle, Lucky and others. Sadly, when the recession hit, I realized my business model simply wasn't going to work anymore, so I took some time to think about what I wanted to do next.

So why jewelry? There are a couple of reasons jewelry was the next logical place for me to go. I had worked for a jewelry supplier where I was introduced to jewelry-making techniques and developed a deep appreciation for the nuance of gemstones. Also, not long after closing my first business, I began taking on freelance jewelry design jobs where I created designs for Badgley Mischka, Hale Bob and others. I realized what a creative avenue jewelry could be and I was hooked.

By 2011 I was ready go out on my own again, this time with a jewelry line.

Inspiration:

As a jewelry designer, I'm influenced by my love of stones but also by one of my most treasured avocations, painting.

The way I approach jewelry design is not unlike the way I approach painting. Color, shape and composition are my biggest considerations. It’s different from designers who work predominantly in metals. I love to play with the composition; the colors of stones against each other; to come up with something a little unexpected.

Sunday Girl collections feature, eclectic combinations of semi-precious stone, metal beads and castings of nature and spiritual motifs.

Process:

Sunday Girl by Amy DiLamarra uses several different processes and techniques in the jewelry. Hand selected stones are wire-wrapped or edged in a hand painted plating process called electroforming.
Original castings are made from hand fabricated pieces and others are made from drawings rendered in 3-D. It’s a lot of fun to go from a hand-drawing to a 3-D model to the final piece.

Production:

All of my pieces are designed by me at my Los Angeles studio and produced by local casters, platers and piece-workers.

Additional policies and FAQs
► JEWELRY CARE TIPS
Always use care when taking items on/off. Please do not wear while exercising, swimming or showering. Please keep clean and dry when not in use and store in a safe place. Sterling silver and gold-filled components can last years of regular wear if taken care of properly.

STERLING SILVER
To clean gently rub with a baking soda & water paste; toothpaste & water; or jewelry cleaner, and rinse with water.

GOLD FILLED
To clean gently rub with dish wash liquid & water, or jewelry cleaner, then rinse with water.

RAW BRASS
Brass color deepens over time. Brass, like silver will patina (tarnish) if not cleaned. This is just oxidation and can be cleaned off, but if you do not clean off tarnish in a timely manner, tarnish may remain permanently. To brighten simply rub with lemon & water then rinse. It can be handy to keep a mixture of lemon & water in a small spray bottle.

GOLD* + SILVER PLATED
Gold and Silver plated components used are also laqcuered to protect the finish however you should never scrub plated components. Jewelry made with these materials can last significantly longer if cared for properly. Remove before exercising or showering; store in a clean and dry place, preferably a closed container; always handle with care, especially when taking on and off.
Gold Vermeil IS sterling silver that has been plated, so it should be cared for like plated jewelry.
