The idea for this project came to me after talking with a very close friend who has been working to overcome his depression and anxiety. I wanted to create something for him to show that he is loved, capable, and an overall incredibly worthy person. I remembered the list of self-affirmations I wrote for myself in the early stages of recovery from my own depression. There were ten affirmations on this list—all things I had never spoken to myself before.
After some brainstorming, I wrote down an affirmation for my friend—something I hoped would be meaningful to him. I chose to represent this affirmation with a colorfully painted sigil, or symbol. Following the creation of this first design, I suspected that this kind of physical reminder could benefit many more, beyond my friend or myself.
Through this project, I want to help others cultivate healthy, positive self-images of themselves. I would love for another person to place my artwork in their home or workspace to further inspire and empower them to achieve their dreams, no matter how big or small those dreams may be.
