Just playing around with silver, copper and tools.
I was the little sister who went fishing with my father and brothers. Deep sea fishing in my father's 28 foot boat named "Susie Q". We fished the rivers and creeks and I loved the competition with those big, older brothers.
My mother had been a dressmaker from the early age of 11 and had her first store front at the age of 15. She saved string, aluminum foil and saved her pennies. Never by on credit - pay in cash.
As I sewed - so did I experiment. I would drag my mother to all sorts of craft classes: clay modeling, sculpting, cake decorating and even transcendental meditation. As she got older she sewed quilt after quilt. I continued on to Decorative tole painting, sculpting cloth dolls, sculpting dolls, faces, hand and feet in clay. I took classes with Jack Johnston, the world famous art doll maker, in his home. I took the Master Gardener course through Oregon State University which helped fuel my love of working in the yard with vegetables, fruits and flowers. I have gone from dress making to quilting and machine embroidering also. Wool and wool felting, card making, working with specialty papers, paper beads and now metals for jewelry. Torched and kiln fired enamel is in the mix along with beginning to work with glass for lamp work beads.
Now being retired I can spend each day with metal, glass, tools and of coarse be ready at a moments notice to go fishing with my dear hubby.... he is retired also.
