My name is Barry Braun. I have a passion for pies.
I started out in pottery mixing clay for the Minnesota Clay Company when I was 16 years old and took my first class at the University of Minnesota under the direction of master potter Warren MacKenzie, who himself was a student of Bernard Leach, a leader in the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century. I’ve spent my entire life teaching, making, and selling functional, beautiful, hand-crafted bowls, casseroles, mugs, pie plates, and muffin pans that turn out the lightest, airiest, butteriest pop-overs you’ll ever put in your mouth.
I’ve personally made all of the pieces in this store on my farm in southern Michigan, where I retired with my wife, Cate, after a 16-year career teaching pottery in Minnesota and many years making and selling pottery at local art fairs.
In addition to what you see here, I also make a variety of pots that I use in my own house, including butter dishes, tortilla warmers, dog bowls, casseroles, mixing bowls, pitchers, and a variety of serving bowls for the table. But I love making pie pans the most because I have a deep passion for making and eating pies. And the pies always seem to taste better baked in my handmade pans.
