I Was Raised by the Queen of Christmas Cards
Hi, I'm Elise, the owner of Swisstopher Robin. This little shop is a labor of love and I am so glad you're here!
In some ways you could say that opening a stationery store was my destiny. I mean, I was raised by the Queen of Christmas Cards. As far back as I can remember, there were three things my family could always count on during the holidays. One: we would listen to John Denver & The Muppets' Christmas album as much as possible (best Christmas album ever, btw). Two: we would make rosettes at least once during the holiday season, an amazingly delicious cookie from Norway that you have to try. And three: for a few days every year, our dining room table would be converted to Christmas card central.
Back before the days of Etsy or Minted, when beautiful and unique holiday cards were hard to come by, my mother would painstakingly create our holiday card each year and mail them to dozens of friends and family. Being the young, self-absorbed child that I was, I never understood what the big deal was and how in the world it was worth all those hours of work.
Thankfully, I grew out of the self-absorbed phase, well, for the most part. And now, I totally get it. Especially in the digital era we've living in, there's something special and meaningful about receiving mail from someone you love. No matter what's on the inside, seeing your name on the outside of that envelope is magical. You can't wait to see what treasure awaits you.
