My specialty is embroidering realistic birds, animals and flowers with needle and thread and then creating needle painting kits with very detailed instructions and good quality materials so that you can also embroider your own birds, animals and flowers with realistic results.

Blackwork is a technique that really sparks my creative mind, I love to play with different blackwork patterns and stitch designs that have perspective and depth. I have created blackwork kits to give you the opportunity to also stitch artistic blackwork embroideries.

When I like to relax and shut off my mind, l enjoy working on Hapsburg lace designs, the rhythm of stitching canvas work patterns while watching Netflix or listening to a podcast is my most happy times. I hope you will feel the same way too.

This was the first time I've embroidered ever and I've been having a lot of fun working on this bluebird thread painting kit. I'm around 40% done with it, and if I get more completed by Etsy's review deadline, I can submit an updated picture. The kit came with plenty of thread that was labeled by DMC color. I'm almost done stitching the shades of blue for the bird's head and have finished the orange parts of the bird's body, and I still have lots of thread left over for those colors, for example. The instructions and technical diagrams are also detailed enough that I've been able to follow them despite never doing embroidery before. I like that there are diagrams with stitch direction/branch order/thread color too.

About Tanja's Hand Embroidery Kits

My name is Tanja and I live in Alberta, Canada where I run my home business designing hand embroidery kits and traveling widely to teach hand embroidery.

My life in needlework started after I left school and took a one year foundation course in art and design and then the three year apprenticeship course in hand embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework based in the UK. I spent some time after the course in the workroom working on hand embroidery commissions and restoration.

After a while I felt an urge to travel and left the UK to go backpacking in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. On my travels I met a great Canadian guy. I made the big move from the UK to Canada where we live now with our two dogs and I continue to do the needlework art I have always loved.

The needlework designs on my Etsy site and on my website are designed and stitched by myself and I write the detailed instructions for the patterns. There are are also two designs by my very talented mother - Beppy Berlin.

You will find some advanced hand embroidery designs on my website as well as embroidery tools and supplies. I specialize in goldwork supplies for metal thread embroidery.
