Handmade cut paper illustrations and paper flowers
I’ve always been a bit of a paper freak. Whether folding origami or cutting out snowflakes, I loved playing with paper. And I loved admiring the beautifully crafted papers as I grew older. (I’m still hoarding some sheets bought years and years ago.)
But after taking a 3D illustration course in college, I kind of got…hooked. I started making “dimensional illustrations” that had me experimenting and painting and cutting and playing with paper all over again: all in a brand new way!
Ever since I’ve been challenging myself to keep trying and moving forward with my work, and try to bring something new and different to each piece I make.
When working on each piece, I definitely follow the “slow and steady” mantra spending hours painting, then cutting, then gluing papers so that they’re just so. There’s just something about sitting down and spending hours intricately cutting each shape from the paper that I just don’t get anywhere else.
Growing up on Martha's Vineyard, I am happy to have returned to the island this summer with my roommate Vinci, prince of cats. With plenty to be inspired by and a wonderful caring community surrounding the island, I couldn't be happier!
