This tote purse made with breast cancer awareness fabric is my tribute to a family member who is battling cancer. Maybe you know someone who would carry this purse proudly; a survived or someone in the midst of the battle.
Makings for one of the tall, medium-sized flap purses. I'm using this purse myself this fall and winter, and I love this style!
I'm assembling one of my flap purses. This style has EIGHT pockets! Stay tuned for more updates...

About

Designs with "Purse-sonality"!

Hello, I'm Teresa Groff. I began making purses in 2007, when my young teen-aged daughters wanted to learn to sew. I designed a simple purse pattern, the girls chose fabrics and I helped them learn to use the sewing machine. I found that I loved to make purses myself. I improved on my first attempts and soon family and friends began giving me custom orders. My purse business was born!

I am basically a one-woman operation, making patterns, cutting out fabrics, sewing and finishing the purses with hardware. In a pinch, my husband will cut out the fabric pieces and one of my sons likes to put in magnetic snaps. I do my own marketing and photography and my husband and kids help at craft shows.

Early on, I found that the more sturdy a fabric was, the better purse it made. I chose tapestries, quilted, home décor and vinyl fabrics for the exteriors of purses and cotton duck fabric for the linings. I purchased an industrial sewing machine to get through the thick layers of fabrics. Soon I was researching hardware sources for the adjustable straps I was adding to some of my styles. Over time, I've simplified my designs for a streamlined look, adding a flap with a magnetic snap closure to most of my styles. My purse designs all have several pockets, and most have a large, zippered pocket.

Soon after I started making purses, co-workers urged me to do "purse parties". I built up my inventory and took it on the road! The hostess of a purse party allows me to show my purses to her guests, I take orders and make sales and she receives a purse as my thanks. This venue is a perfect way to meet return customers. In 2008, I began taking my purses to local craft shows, and I now do several shows during the year. I show my purses in local craft shops and from my home workroom.

I heard about Etsy in 2009, and marveled at such an impressive number of craftspeople and artists from around the world. I decided to open my own shop. I still feel the same excitement of getting an order that I felt the first time I made a sale!

Each of my customers is unique, and the purses they carry should be reflective of their "purse-sonality"!
