About Me
My name is Alicia Bautista, and I am a native Zapotec from Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico. The Zapotec language and the ancient art of weaving have been passed down through generations in my family. I grew up surrounded by this rich tradition and began weaving when I was 12 years old.
I discovered that Etsy was an excellent platform for handmade art and opened my shop to create a direct market for the handwoven rugs made by my family, relatives, friends, and myself. My goal was to connect our work directly with customers so that the artisans in our community could receive fair compensation for their craftsmanship without the need for intermediaries.
Today, inspired by the opportunities that technology and globalization provide, my family and I continue to grow our business by sharing our handmade textiles with customers around the world. Through our work, we help support our family, relatives, and fellow artisans while preserving the centuries-old weaving traditions of Teotitlán del Valle for future generations. Every rug we create represents our heritage, our craftsmanship, and our commitment to keeping this beautiful Zapotec tradition alive.

If you are planning to visit Oaxaca, we warmly invite you to visit our home rustic kitchen to taste traditional mole and experience the rich, unadulterated flavor of true Mexican cacao, just as our ancestors did. You will participate in a hands-on demonstration of traditional chocolate preparation from scratch.
Next,, you will discover the fascinating world behind our internationally recognized Zapotec textiles. We will demonstrate the ancient art of natural dyeing and show you how we transform materials from nature into brilliant colors using traditional ingredients, including cochineal, a tiny insect that lives on nopal cactus and produces vibrant shades of red, as well as pecan leaves and other natural plants and minerals.
You will also watch a master weaver demonstrate the rhythm, precision, and skill required to operate our traditional pedal looms. Finally, enjoy a peaceful walk through our gallery, where you can admire our collection of handwoven rugs and tapestries. Each piece tells a unique story through its geometric patterns, symbols, and designs inspired by Zapotec culture.
