Antique and Vintage Textiles + Objects with hidden stories
TextilesNotToForget was born of fascination for handmade antique and vintage folk art textiles. Items deeply rooted in tradition and issue of age old crafts and their artisans. Such pieces often emanate a genuine richness with character and hidden stories. As a visual artist they have been a great source of inspiration together with the concept of recycling widespread within these communities. In 1999 I gave birth to the idea of an interdisciplinary exhibition ‘Quilts & Portraits from Kutch’ focusing on recycling, old crafts and slowness all present in amongst other things the wonderful quilts made by these talented women.
I have been on field trips through out the years and during these trips I have been drawn towards pieces of textiles and objects lovingly discovered for their artistic and aesthetic look and added to my collection some thirty five years ago. I'm pleased to share this collection with you now. The majority of my items originates from textile dealers in India but you will also find Japanese, Turkish and Scandinavian items on display.
Part of my textile collection has been with me since the seventies/eighties and another part since early nineties, often stored in a dark place. I live in a smoke and pet free environment.
