THE ARABESQUE: BRINGING YOU PIECES OF HISTORY THROUGH ART AND CRAFT
When a crafter, artist, and talented woman lives with an eccentric and often absent-minded historian with a PhD there is bound to be some sort of an incredible outcome from the friction and fusion of two diverse personalities. The Arabesque is a design concept which has come about from this union. Tasneem and Ali have both traveled and lived all over the world, especially in different places in the Middle East and India where the arabesque is popularly used in several artistic and architectural settings - historical and modern. The art form of the arabesque is an age old design concept which was widely employed in the Middle Ages where artists combined linear rhythmic patterns to create intricate scrolling or interlacing foliage or geometric designs in order to ornament buildings and objects made of all types of mediums. Ali and Tasneem envisioned The Arabesque as an incentive to bring interesting, elegant, and exceptional historical motifs from the medieval world to the everyday worlds of their customers. Since the arabesque and Islamic art are living traditions they also wanted to bring the inspiration, visual beauty, and enjoyment they have experienced from Islamic art and architecture from their travels, research, and own cultural upbringing to the consumer market by making interesting home and office decor products and fashion accessories. They believe that the dissemination and popularizing of several historical motifs in newly conceptualized home decor and everyday products will foster more cultural understanding and competence - something they understand is much needed in today's world. Tasneem and Ali sincerely wish that by reconceptualizing this age old technique and by using various historical motifs and arabesque designs from all around the medieval Islamic world in new formats and concepts, they can bring a little bit of history, charm, and beauty into people's lives.
