Announcement
My book nook shelf inserts are a love child born from the unlikely union of Cabinets of Curiosity from the 1600s, classy historical dollhouse interiors, and junk-based assemblage art.
To populate the tiny worlds inside my cigar box dioramas I loot through my collections of miniature curios and odd natural history-related artifacts.
I tend to assemble strange, alchemical combinations of objects. For example, I might take a salvaged cerulean-blue moth wing and suspend it in clear resin inside an antique apothecary jar.
I make these box dioramas to explore what provokes wonder within me.
But more importantly, I make my boxes in hopes of reminding the viewer of the mystery of her own mind, and the magic of her own memories.

5 out of 5 starsI'm sure my words will be inaccurate to describe the magical feel of this piece. It is assembled with great care and I count myself fortunate to have it by me every day. While I couldn't resist and bought it for myself, something similar would make a marvelous gift.

Care instructions
Though my found object art boxes are well made and finished with protective layers, colors can fade if art is kept on display in direct sunlight.
Be careful not to drop boxes as delicate contents like antique glass bottles could shatter or delicate wings of butterflies or dragonflies could tear.
You may want to keep your art out of kiddy hand and kitty paw range :) Bookshelves are great for safekeeping. I've found the epoxy art resin I now use is pretty indestructible but I would still err on the side of caution when displaying your box to preserve it's life span.
Are the butterflies, dragonflies, moths and beetles in your boxes real?
Usually! Isn't nature the coolest? I do occasionally use paper butterflies but if the description say REAL Butterfly, it's real. :)
Can I ask questions about a box before purchase?
Absolutely! Contact me using the contact seller form above. I promise I don't bite.
How did you get into this?
By day I'm a freelance journalist for arts magazines. And I write a blog for creatives who care about soul. (Come visit, www.thecharmedstudio.com) But by night --- I make art. A decade or so ago I went back to school to study mythology/depth psychology and began making art boxes containing found objects to help me sort out my ideas for my doctoral thesis. My thesis was about the BIG psychological importance certain LITTLE objects/mementos had to great artists and thinkers. People like Frida Kahlo.
I loved making the boxes and people were interested in buying them. So after I got my degree I opened this Etsy shop to continue my journey into the land of things with the support and companionship of fascinating folks like you.
Do you donate a percentage of your profits to charity?
Yes! I love giving 10% of each sale to animal charities like Downtown Dog Rescue, PETA, and NorthValley Wildlife Fire Rescue. :)
