How did I get started in making garden signs…
It all started years ago when I was putting in a garden with my son. My sons and I wanted to label the rows of seeds in the garden. I recently had just gotten remarried to a much older gentleman that had already retired from sign making. He had all these great tools around in the shop just sitting there. Some of them were even tools he had invented for making sign letters. My sons and I began to make some simple small garden signs. That would say TOMATOES and so forth. They are small, common, simple little signs.
Well, after we spent the day making some little signs out of scrap wood. We put them in the garden. You would not believe how satisfying it was to see something poking out of the ground, after all the hours of prepping the dirt of the garden for our future bounty. At that time I was already selling another craft at my local Saturday Market. I thought to myself, “I could sell these there too; they are handmade.” So my son and I made a couple of each word and took them down to the Market. They were selling. I also had some people give me feedback on what they would do to make them better. The true gardeners wanted them to be made from Cedar wood. They also requested the letters to be painted colorful and have them sealed with something safe for their garden, boiled linseed oil.
After seeing them sell locally I decided to look into opening a shop on ETSY. Since then Etsy has changed our lives. We are so thankful for customers like you to support our family while we enjoy working for ourselves. We get the greatest requests from our customers. Please convo us to get started with a custom order.
